Abstract
The development of conservation strategies for orchid species is interesting. Orchid species play an important role in people’s lives, environment, and aesthetics. Orchid species in historical records are threatened with extinction due to the lack of documentation in various regions, increasing theft of orchids for sale, and becoming a massive commercial object. This study discusses the efforts and approaches for conservation and education to protect endangered orchids. This study was conducted in Yogyakarta to understand conservation and education in the community. The method used in this study employs a qualitative approach by conducting literature studies, observations, and interviews with key persons to obtain data and information related to the themes discussed. The results of this study show that action plans for orchid conservation experience both up and down. The education carried out by the community so far involves information dissemination through social media, training, and research in collaboration with universities. The role of education and increasing public awareness of the function of conservation and rare plants has had a positive impact on conservation and eco-education studies in society.
