Abstract

Social media has become an integral part of today's society for personal and professional use. There has been a surge in social media accounts associated with oral maxillofacial surgery, whether it be those of practicing surgeons, surgical residents, or oral and maxillofacial surgery programs. With the COVID-19 pandemic, oral and maxillofacial surgery programs have utilized social media to meet several independent goals, especially since in-person interaction is not possible. Some goals include creating a channel for direct communication with prospective residents or residents from other programs, announcing externship opportunities, promoting their programs, educating students (pre-doctoral and residents), maintaining connection with alumni, or satisfying competency (academic criteria).
