Abstract

Solid particle erosion has been considered as a major problem in all the engineering application. The present erosion studies on the influence of different parameters on erosion for duplex stainless steel (DSS2205) were carried using an air jet erosion test rig with 50 μm size alumina particles at room temperature. The effect of process parameters on erosion were studied using Taguchi method and the contribution was analyzed using ANOVA. The eroded surface was analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Taguchi method was utilized to find the optimum process condition which produces lower erosion rate. The results concluded that the impingement angle had greater influence on erosion rate followed by flow velocity and discharge rate. The results were finally validated by the confirmatory experiment.
