Abstract

Electric discharge drilling (EDD) is a very competent advanced machining technique utilized to fabricate drill holes, but minimum MRR, high TWR, and Ra limit the overall performance of the operation. Achieving precision accuracy holes on superalloys such as Waspaloy is not easy using the traditional machining technique. The investigating effect on responses has been found by conducting EDD experiments under the stipulated range of process parameters. The current, TON, TOFF, TES, and Voltage were chosen as input variables, whereas MRR, TWR, and Ra were selected as output variables. The experimentation was designed based on the Taguchi L16 orthogonal array in which Waspaloy and copper tool electrodes were used for the investigation. The optimization is essential for achieving the maximum performance of EDD. Therefore, in this study, DFA technique was used for the optimizations of EDD of Waspaloy. The optimal parameter settings are determined by using DFA technique. Trial experiments were performed based on optimal settings, improving measured responses positively.
