Abstract

In this paper an optimal sizing of solar, biomass and wind DG with balanced radial distribution system has been proposed for daily hourly load variation. Three technical and one economical index as real power loss reduction, line load reduction, and voltage profile improvement and DG investment cost savings are calculated for analysis of different power factors. All three DG is considered for day time while solar photovoltaic DG is not available at night time. A new sensitivity index approach to identify the most sensitive and optimal nodes for DG placement has been identified which is based on apparent load power and voltage sensitivity. The ranking of the candidate node for DG placement is arranged in descending order of 10% and 25% of TPL. The optimum sizing of DGs using PSO is carried out for daily, hourly load variations, to improve the technical and economic performance. The proposed PSO based approach with new sensitivity formula performs better in terms of the technical factors in terms of real power loss reduction and improvement in the voltage profile shown in simulation results.
