Abstract

The paper presents typical spectra of probe motions, turbulence, and electronic noise of an airborne hot-wire anemometer. Their relative amplitudes as a function of aircraft size and velocity, hot-wire length, and turbulence dissipation are discussed. The optimal choice of these parameters in the measurement of small-scale atmospheric turbulence with an airborne hot-wire anemometer is recommended.
