Abstract
Oncocytomas are considered as benign, slowly growing tumors. Orbital oncocytomas are quite rare and are usually located in the caruncle and accessory lacrimal glands. A 43-year-old female presented with a 2 year history of swelling over the right lacrimal gland region. Besides detailed ophthalmologic examination, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the orbit was evaluated and excisional biopsy under general anesthesia through lateral orbitotomy was performed. Histopathologic examination of the surgical specimen and immunohistochemical evaluation revealed that the tumor was oncocytoma. Although lacrimal gland oncocytoma is very rare, ophthalmologists should be familiar with this diagnosis. In addition to clinical suspicion, MRI is helpful to evaluate the lesion. However, total excision with histopathologic evaluation is a must for this tumor.
