Abstract

Several techniques are used to evaluate the dizzy patient. The use of these methods is dependent upon the value of information forthcoming and cost. Accordingly, in order of value per unit of cost, these components in the examination are history, physical examination, tests of auditory and vestibular function, and finally special tests (neuroimaging, rotation tests, and posturography). An accurate diagnosis and effective treatment program can be formulated in the majority of dizzy patients using these techniques.
