Abstract

Ostwald's condition for the formation of periodic precipitation (Liesegang rings) at a distance x from the gel boundary, C A( x) C B( x = constant, is modified as C A( x) = constant. C B( x) to account for the experimentally observe d results of different systems, where C A( x) and C B( x) are the concentrations of the external and internal electrolytes at x, respectively. Using this condition and Fick's second law of diffusion, the form of all the existing relations of the periodic precipitation can be obtained; and were tested experimentally.
