Abstract

We have analyzed pulse shaping in discrete and continuous dispersive systems. It is shown that a physically feasible orthogonalisation of the temporal modes may enable optical pulses with time-orthogonal envelopes to be produced. Such pulses could be useful in the investigations of some linear and nonlinear coherent transient processes.
