Abstract
In the course of preparing the new edition of Willis' 'Dictionary of Flowering Plants and Ferns', under the generic name Helwingia Willd. (Cornaceae) in the 'Index Kewensis' I came upon the entry 'populifolia Spreng. Pugill. ii. 89 (non generis).-Bengal.' Curiosity as to the compiler's 'non generis', together with the tropical Asian provenance of the plant, prompted me to turn up the reference (Sprengel, 'Plantarum minus cognitarum pugillus secundus': 89 (1815)).
