Abstract

A dissolution technique suitable for use on a Portland cement is described. An aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide and sucrose is used to produce a residue rich in alite and dicalcium silicate. Used in conjunction with established techniques which employ salicyclic acid and methanol, it offers a way to enrich the dicalcium silicate phases in the residue.
