Abstract

The boson expansions of fermion pair operators proposed earlier are for the case of seniority-zero pairs in one degenerate j-shell given in a closed form. It is shown, for the case of pairing interaction, that the boson treatment gives the exact solutions. This provides an unambiguous interpretation of a parameter denoted y 0, which is left undetermined by the boson method. The role played by y 0 in realistic calculations is further discussed including now quadrupole residual interaction in the model.
