Abstract

The application of boson techniques in the study of systems with an even number of fermions is examined. Different methods are tested in the degenerate model. For use in realistic cases, in which several subshells play a role, an approximation based on the isolation in the boson space of collective branches of excitations is suggested. This method is applied to pairing vibrations in Pb with a satisfactory result.
