Abstract
Trata o presente trabalho de um estudo descritivo-comparativo do infinitivo no nível superficial em português e m francês, língua escrita. Após tentativas de definição segundo os critérios semântico e formal, o critério funcional é tido como o mais adequado, por permitir uma visão mais ampla do infinitivo dentro do seu campo de atuação, como núcleo do predicado, complemento do verbo, de oração, do nome e como sujeio. Acompanha uma bibliografia seletiva, reunindo trabalhos das mais diversas tendências.
