Abstract

The article discusses the attitude of the media/press in the Brazilian state of Para in March 1964 and its relationship with civil military coup. The article use testimonies of tortures prisoners and political prisoners that participated in the students movement in 1964. The article intends to relativize the stance of the PSD (Political party from Para State) at the time of the coup, first defining support to the coup and subsequently shifting position, becoming critical after the impeachments of the governor Aurelio do Carmo, the vice-governor, the mayor of the capital (Belem) and various state and federal deputies. The Article intend to demonstrate the arrest of several labor unionists, students and intellectuals reported by the press in the anticommunist campaign installed.
