Abstract

Crashes are the number one cause of injury for licensed drivers aged 65 to 74 years. Elders need to maintain independence, and retaining a driving license is of great importance to remain mobile and to participate in society. Nurse practitioners, as primary care providers, are pivotal to reduction of senior driver risk through early prevention, screening, and referral for driver rehabilitation. A Safe Senior Mobility Plan, available as an on-line module, illustrates strategies that nurse practitioners can easily integrate into routine care to keep elders safe. An overview of the on-line module is portrayed in this article.
