Abstract
Strong mining seismic events are the source of very high values of peak particle velocity (PPV) recorded in near wave field. The high value of PPV and in low frequency band can exert high dynamic load on the support and underground excavation. As a result of significant increase in dynamic load on the support there is instability and the rockburst phenomena in excavations are observed. The stress concentration zones linked to edges or remnants of the old exploitation are the places where rockbursts have occurred most often. The performed numerical modeling showed, that under the some level of PPV, an important increase in the calculated load on the arch steel support were observed in the stress concentration zones. These results are in good correlation with numerous cases of rockbursts occurred in the Polish mines. In our opinion, continuous measurement and controlling the level of PPV and numerical modeling of dynamic loads in the stress concentration zones allow us for better forecasting of potential rockbursts hazard in mines.
