Abstract

A reconfigurable horn antenna made of pure water is described in this paper. The proposed horn antenna uses pure water layer instead of the metallic wall of a conventional horn antenna. High gain and wide band should be obtained when dimensions of the horn are well chosen. The proposed water horn antenna achieves a bandwidth of 68.4% (from 2.6 GHz to 5.2 GHz). By taking advantage of the fluidity of water, pattern reconfigurability can be achieved. Simulated results show that the proposed horn antenna can work in four different states: E-plane horn, H-plane horn, pyramidal horn and leaky-wave antenna, which indicate different radiation patterns.
