Abstract

This paper reported a synthesis method of platinum nanoparticles, and platinum nanoparticles covered by carbon capsules via field emission. A multiple-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) was invested for emitter. At the counter position, a tungsten micro-probe which was etched to 1 μm in diameter and cover a palylene layer of 400 nm. The gap between emitter and tungsten probe was control to 1 μm by nanorobotic manipulation system. Constant current of 1 A is applied to synthesis the platinum nanoparticles. The nanoparticle was observed by transmission electron microscope (TEM) for crystal structure, and selected area diffraction pattern. Single crystal and polycrystal platinum nanoparticles have been discovered.
