Abstract
O objetivo do artigo é dialogar sobre os homens negros que foram escolhidos pelo articulista Rodolfo Xavier (1876-1964), em seus escritos para o impresso negro racial A Alvorada, de Pelotas. Atento também para as escolhas, as intenções e os sentidos da preferência de Rodolfo Xavier por sujeitos específicos em suas produções textuais. Sendo assim, busco contribuir para a valorização das ideias e pensamento de homens negros gerados a partir de espaços alternativos, como a imprensa negra. Para a efetivação desta pesquisa, os estudos desenvolvidos por Beatriz Loner a respeito da classe trabalhadora de Pelotas e os estudos sobre o pós-abolição são referências fundamentais.
