Abstract

There has been an upsurge of interest in class action litigation over the past few years. Legal scholars, journalists, and politicians have all weighed in on the topic. Congress reformed federal securities class action procedures in 1995, and an advisory committee is weighing a proposal for fundamental changes to Rule 23, the general federal class action provision. The Supreme Court of the United States issued important decisions on class action settlements during the past few years, and more are likely to follow.
