Abstract

This chapter discusses a modern device for nondestructive detection of corrosion damage and improper repair work on motor cars. The device has been developed by the German Technical Inspectorates (TÜVs) in collaboration with a testing device manufacturer. The device works on the electromagnetic principle. The device is suitable for use by the vehicle inspection organizations thereby reducing or replacing destructive corrosion tests with hammer and scraper, for use in vehicle workshops for the preparation of motor cars for examination by an inspection organization, and for use on the used-car markets for the diagnosis of vehicles taken in part-exchange.
