Abstract
A technique is developed for calculating the non-stationary responses of a system with bilinear hysteresis subjected to non-white random excitations. An approximate equation of motion describing the hysteretic behavior is constructed by introducing an additional state variable and non-linear functions. The moment equations of an equivalent linear system are derived and solved numerically by utilizing a recurrence algorithm to determine the inhomogeneous terms, and thus the mean square responses are obtained. The results are compared with the corresponding digital simulation results.
