Abstract

Mixed nickel(II)-cobalt(II) hydroxide nitrate crystals of the single and double layer lattice type were studied as precursors in the preparation of Ni y Co 3− y O 4 spinels. It was found that both types of compounds decompose thermally at relatively low temperatures, passing through stages of partial oxidation of M(II) to M(III) (M = metal). The intermediate oxide hydroxide nitrates obtained preserve their layered type structures until the formation of the final spinel phase.
