Abstract

Abstract The dependence of the unit-cell parameters of copper(II)-cobalt(II) hydroxide nitrate mixed crystals Cu x Co2 – x (OH)3NO3 on x have been studied by means of X-ray powder diffraction techniques. It has been shown that the relatively rapid precipitation of the hydroxide nitrates leads to the formation of monophase continuous solid solutions. The pure cobalt hydroxide nitrate and the intermediate compounds below x = 1.0 are monoclinic pseudohexagonal. For x = 1.0 a short-range order occurs, so that copper and cobalt ions are in different crystallographic positions.
