Abstract
The article aims to describe the evolution of underground tourism in France since 2000. Three main aspects are considered : the map of underground tourism has remained almost unchanged, even though 10 caves closed, and 6 new ones have opened in the meantime. But the supply has evolved more qualitatively, in reaction to the drop in attendance observed in the 1990s : the multiplication of excursions led by guides beyond the classic equipped sectors, routes equipped with ropes and tackle, or theme visits have renewed the ways of visiting the caves. Finally, facsimiles of the great caves with prehistoric paintings (Lascaux, Chauvet, and soon Cosquer) have appeared, which are very popular with the public and have changed the very idea of a tourist cave.
