Abstract

New teachers of Portuguese Language, exposed to a curriculum which is based on linguistic theories, frequently begin to work in conservative schools, which are against innovative proposals. This text discusses the timid diffusion of Linguistics in schools and how this situation affects the work of the beginning teachers. The authors then propose an alternative way to minimize the problem. Key words: applied linguistics, educational sociolinguistics, reading.
