Abstract
Based on a common motivation, two new applications of the self-consistent cranking technique are discussed. The first allows the calculation of anharmonic effects for collective vibrational modes that carry angular momentum about an equilibrium symmetry axis. The second is the description of tilted rotation. Illustrations are given for the QQ-force model, the interacting boson model and the constant-volume harmonic oscillator shell model.
