Abstract

A new type of feedforward ACC (Automatic Gauge Control) system for cold tandem mills has been developed. The principle of this system is based 011 the following two control methods. One is the method to remove the influence of both variation in hardness and thickness of the entry strip. The other is the method to compensate for the influence of a roll eccentricity. The former method is derived from theory of rolling and the latter is based on the estimation of the roll eccentricity utilizing the Kalman filtering algorithm. The effect of a new method has been compared with that of the conventional one through numerical simulation and as a result, the deviation in exit strip thickness can be reduced more than 40%.
