Abstract
The article deals with the problem of studying neologisms in the modern English language, the main ways of capturing the constantly changing world in linguistic reality are analyzed. In the changing extra-linguistic reality, there is a need to rethink existing lexical units, and therefore the constant maintenance of new words requires nomination in the language system.
 Purpose. The purpose of the study is a theoretical and practical substantiation of entering and functioning of neologisms in modern English.
 Materials and methods. The practical material for the study was the texts of Internet periodical publications, data from bilingual and explanatory dictionaries. To achieve the research goal, the following methods of scientific research were used: analysis of scientific literature, continuous sampling method, method dictionary definition, descriptive method.
 Results. The study is determined neologisms origin as well as the way they reinvigorate language. It was determined that over time many new words have entered common use due to developments in social and political life, science and culture. Most of the neologisms appear in those spheres of social life that are experiencing the strongest rise in media reality. At the same time, the ways of forming new words and the ways of their semantic content are already subject to the internal laws of language development. It can be concluded that the main reason for entering common use of neologisms is to satisfy the social and communicative needs.
 Practical implications. The results of the study can be used in the further study of the neologisms. The practical significance of this study lies in the using of theoretical and practical conclusions in lecture courses on the English language lexicology and stylistics of the English language, as well as in practical classes on lexicology.
