Abstract

In projects of unique attributes such as mass housing, little is known about the nature of communication performance among the teams. Through the use of Fuzzy set approach from a questionnaire survey on project teams of mass housing projects, this study highlights the level of communication performance among mass housing project teams using a nine (9) factor criteria attributes in communication performance. The findings indicate good performance in the accuracy, distortions, barriers and underloading in the communication task functions among mass housing project teams. In the measure of timeliness of communication, the performance was deemed as being satisfactory. However, on overloading, understanding, gatekeeping and procedure, the teams’ performance was poor. The study further revealed that, the overall communication performance of the project team in mass housing project delivery emerged as being satisfactory. Given the need for effective communication to engender improved task function, collaboration, cooperation and team effectiveness in mass housing delivery, the insight given by the study may help mass housing project teams to focus their attention on the necessary aspects of multi-team interactions and communication and evolve bespoke media, tools and strategies especially in improving timeliness, overloading, understanding, gatekeeping and procedure.
