Abstract

The work presents the results of investigations of the structure of Kapton polyimide, which is irradiated with high-energy heavy lead (8.6 MeV/nucleon) ions at a f luence varying in the range 1010–1012 ion/cm2 using small-angle X-ray scattering and diffraction, infrared (IR) and visible absorption spectroscopy, and electron energy-loss spectroscopy. Irradiation results in long-range ordering with a 50–100 A period appearing in Kapton.
