Abstract

Limitation of safety for the vibration of cars is said to depend upon the comfort of riding on cars in narrow sense. The comfort of riding may imply the pleasantness in human feeling for mechanical vibration. In this paper, problem of the comfort of riding was thoroughly investigated from the point of view of engineering and physiology by measurement of the vibration of acceleration of cars and physiological behaviour of tested human. To study the effect of the vibration on the comfort by reflection method which rely on human feeling leads to involve individual subjectivity and in correct results. Therefore, unconscious physiological activities of human in driving operation were objectively measured on the variation of the pulse, respiration and quantity of saliva.(1) When tested human drived on the pleasant test course which he rarely meets any disturbance, his best physiological activities were obtained at the speed of 70km/h, so that the comfort of riding was recognized to reach best condition.(2) In this experiment, the person who isn't drive showed superior the comfort of riding to the tested driver under the identical condition described previously. This fact suggests that the comfort of riding can not determine with only the vibration of cars.
