Abstract

This paper describes the two plunge speeds grinding process, in which the plunge speed of wheel head is changed from the first higher speed into the second lower speed required for an expected grinding quality at a certain grinding time. It is made clear that the variation of grinding force in the two plunge speeds grinding is affected by the relation between the grinding force in the point of speed change and the steady force for the second plunge speed, and that the size generation process in the two plunge speeds griding is affected by the relation between the size generation rate in the point of speed change and the second effective plunge speed. It is then pointed out that the two plunge speeds grinding is not always more useful than the traditional plunge grinding from a point of view of grinding efficiency and quality, by analyzing the grinding efficiency under a given grinding allowance and quality.
