Abstract
In cylindrical plunge grinding where a plunge speed is set so that a depth setting per one revolution of workpiece becomes of the order of 10-3 mm, there exists an accumulation phenomenon of interference depth of wheel and the accumulation phenomenon in grinding leads to two transient states, a state of spark-in grinding at the beginning of grinding and a state of spark-out grinding after stop of the infeed of grinding wheel. The purpose of this study is to get a foundation for scientific understanding of grinding process by combining an analysis of transient characteristics in grinding with that of grinding process in steady state. In this paper the concept of the accumulation phenomenon in grinding is made clear by analyzing the variation of grinding force in spark-in, steady and spark-out states in plunge grinding, and the spark-in and spark-out grinding times. Then it is indicated that the two plunge speed grinding is effective to make the spark-in grinding time shorter.
