Abstract

This article focuses on the use of musical terminology in new contexts which have no connection with the original musical context. In these new contexts, musical terms are used in a figurative meaning, serving as metaphors to describe often highly complicated aspects of reality. Based on the journalistic texts in the DeReKo corpus, the paper explores the ratio between the use of selected terms in musical contexts and non-musical contexts, investigates which aspects of reality are described via musical terminology, and analyzes the functions that these metaphors perform.
