Abstract

Multiplicity distributions of shower particles produced in high-energy collisions of proton at 800 GeV,4He at ≈ 11A GeV and ≈ 140A GeV, and28Si at 14.5A GeV have been analysed separately in forward and backward hemispheres. The data are well described by the negative binomial distributions (NBDs). The heavy-ion data of28Si agree well with the predictions for NBD of multistring Monte Carlo code VENUS. Similar analysis has been performed in different azimuthal angle intervals for the first time, for the nucleus-nucleus interactions, and the data here also are satisfactorily parametrised in terms of NBD.
