Abstract

The rationale for this study is to determine that movement activity is an important part of students’ healthy lifestyle. As a result of the high school physical education system reforming (exclusion of the compulsory physical training classes), students lose motivation to motor activity and acquire harmful habits (tobacco-smoking, drinking alcohol, and other). The purpose of the article is to study the impact of motor activity on the number of students with tobacco habits and alcohol consumption. Methods of research: analysis of the records of physical culture and sports activities of students (to determine the scope and nature of their motor activity); anonymous questionnaire (to determine the number of students with harmful habits); comparative analysis (to determine the factor of influence of physical activity on indicators of the number of students with harmful habits). The number of male and female students of different courses who used alcohol and had a habit of tobacco smoking was studied. We revealed that the number of students with problems with alcohol and smoking habits increased among persons who didn’t have regular physical activity vs. those who had, especially among male students (p<0.05). So as a result of exclusion of the compulsory physical training classes from the educational programme the number of students with bad health will be increased, and the efficiency of their education will reduce. It was determined that the number of students with a predisposition to drinking alcohol among men is 7.7%, and among women − 4.1%; the average rate of people who have a habit of smoking among male students is 16.1%, and among female students − 5.9%.We showed that movement activity is an effective factor in preventing harmful habits (tobacco smoking and drinking alcohol) among both male and female students.
