Abstract

In this study, the 3D morphology, misorientation, and orientations of convex coarse grains in an industrial Ni-Cr-Mo heavy steel plate were analyzed to understand the characteristics of the coalescent structure. The previously identified microcosmic appearance of the coalescent structure was observed, and the rarely studied convex morphology was examined. The altitude differences of the convex coalescent structures studied by 3D morphology were approximately 20–40 nm. The convex morphology results from the corrosion resistance of the {001} plane parallel to the observed plane.
