Abstract

Cellulose acetate hollow fiber membranes for hemodialysis were prepared by a melt spinning method. Mixtures of cellulose acetate and poly(ethylene glycol) were used as membrane materials. Factors affecting membrane performance were mixture composition, and first and second poly(ethylene glycol) leaching conditions. The effects of these factors were investigated and interpreted in terms of the morphological appearance of the membranes when viewed with a scanning electron microscope.
