Abstract

Background and Aims: Leukotriene receptor antagonists (LTRA) are used as a therapeutic alternative in asthmatic patients, and soon after, their use was expanded to other allergic condiditions such as allergic rhinits and urticaria. Since cysteinyl-LTs have a role in inflammation and vascular tone in atherosclerosis we hypothesized that LTRAs may have a role in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The aim of this study was to determine the potential role of a leukotriene antagonist, montelukast, in cardiovascular events.
