Abstract

Abstract Transition metal oxides (TMOs) have gained interest in photovoltaic community for their usages as dopant-free carrier-selective contacts in silicon based solar cells. TMOs such as MoOx, WOx, V2Ox, NiOx with high work function are used as hole-selective contacts whereas TiO2, ZnO are used as electron-selective contacts. We have fabricated solar cells using molybdenum trioxide (MoO3-x, x 88% in visible region and have band gap of 3.43 eV. As molybdenum trioxide has high work function ∼6.6 eV, it helps in the transport of holes in this structure. We have achieved power conversion efficiency of 4.44%, current density 28.44 mA/cm2 and open-circuit voltage 391 mV. Further optimization of processing parameter is necessary to improve the performance of these solar cells.
