Abstract
Molecular characterization for submergence tolerance in 50 multi parent advanced breeding lines along with checks were carried with submergence related 78 SSR markers, number of loci per primer ranging from one to three and their PIC value ranging from 0.227 to 0.732 illustrate high range of polymorphism in the population and marker trait association revealed by R2 value of 6.83 and 7.18 for RM1287 and RM8094 markers with the traits, number of tillers and number of filled grains per plant respectively. Markers with highest R2 value from this population can be used for marker assisted selection (MAS) programs. Six genotypes (ML-1-1-2-1-39, ML-1-2-5-1-41, ML-1-3-1-1-49, ML-1-3-2-1-25, ML-1-5-6-1-8 and ML-1-7-3-1-31) which are high yielding and moderately tolerant to submergence were identified from this study can be proposed for multi-location trials forwarded by farm trails and will be utilized in developing potential varieties for submergence tolerance in hill zone of Karnataka.
