Abstract

1:2 complexes of tin (IV) bromide with acetamide, benzamide, acetanilide and dimethyl formamide have been prepared. The analytical composition, Acceptor. 2 Donor for these complexes has been confirmed by indicator titration of stannic bromide against the donor molecules. A 1:2 complex of stannic iodide with dimethyl formamide has also been prepared. Cryoscopic molecular weight determinations of stannic bromide complexes in nitrobenzene show that they are monomeric. Negative shifts of the carbonyl stretching frequency indicates oxygen to metal bonding in all these complexes. The relative values of the shifts in v (CO) and the melting points of the dimethyl formamide adducts indicate the following order for the acceptor strength among the tin (IV) halides.
