Abstract

A recently proposed method to introduce nonperturbative effects in quantum field theory, by suitably modifying the usual normalization conditions for the Green’s functions, is applied to the πOpen image in new window system. In comparison with the standard Yukawa theory, completely new features appear. In particular we obtain a relation between theGOpen image in new windowπ coupling constant and the mass of the pion, which shows a close connection with the self-concistency mass equation of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. A leading-order calculation givesOpen image in new window/4π=14.6 in excellent agreement with experiment. The consistency of the approach is discussed.
