Abstract

AbstractThe synthesis of ion exchanging polymers carrying carboxyl and hydrazide groups has been investigated. The ion exchangers were obtained by conversion of carboxylic acid polymers and copolymers to the corresponding acid fluorides and chlorides. The exchange capacity was found to be 3.9 to 14 mg‐equiv/g with polymeric hydrazines and 9 to 14 mg‐equiv/g with carboxyl‐containing polymers. The ion exchanging polymers obtained can be applied as sorbents of bivalent metals, in the textile industry etc.
