Abstract
Departing from the existence of Islamic boarding school institutions which are expected to be an example in practicing religious moderation, prioritizing balance, tolerance, and harmony in religion. However, during the development of increasingly diverse religious understandings, Pesantren are also faced with the challenge of maintaining religious moderation in religious activities and rituals carried out. This study discusses how religious practices and rituals of Islamic boarding schools reflect religious moderation, factors that support the implementation of religious moderation in the Islamic boarding school environment and what obstacles Islamic boarding schools face in realizing religious moderation. The results of this study show that the Darussalam Islamic Boarding School in Bengkulu City has implemented the values of religious moderation in its religious activities and rituals. This is reflected in practices that maintain a balance between religious traditions and teachings, as well as prioritizing inclusive and tolerant attitudes. Factors that support religious moderation in this Pesantren include leadership and example of kyai, curriculum and education system, and harmonious interaction with the community. However, Pesantren also face challenges and obstacles, such as the influence of certain religious beliefs, internal dynamics, and socio-cultural changes in the community.
