Abstract

The current work explore the impact of process parameters such as number of passes and bore diameter of specimen on the interior surface quality of a pre machined component by extrusion honing process. The finishing process is highly flexible and unconventional that modifies the interior surfaces of miniature components involving complex profiles. This method is extensively employed to deburr, polish, finish, remove recast layers and chamfer the surfaces by the pressurized flow of semi viscous abrasive laden across the surface to be processed. The experimental study involves extrusion honing of Inconel-625 alloy. Also, efforts in developing a multiple regression expression on surface roughness parameter Ra as response with number of passes and bore dia as designed parameters of this finishing process. Experimental data is tabulated and analyzed by constructing L9 OA for the factors considered. The influencing process factor among the opted design parameter is assessed by analysis of variance (ANOVA). Multivariate regression analysis is performed to forecast the surface finish of the specimen within the operating range of the process, while also validated with test results. Finally, surface texture resulted by the extrusion honing process is evaluated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis.
