Abstract

The aim of the paper is modelling and simulation on the deformation behaviours of two different advanced high strength steels (AHSS), CP800 and MP800HY in ANSYS. This can help in understanding the material’s behaviour without actually testing in real world which are sometimes very costly and time consuming. The simulated results can be utilized for constructing the crashworthy structures. The behaviour of complex phase steel (CP800) is simulated at strain rates (1–750 s−1) under tension whereas the behaviour of multi-phase high yield strength steel (MP800HY) is simulated at different strain rates under tension (1–750 s−1) and compression (1300–4100 s−1). The numerical simulations are done using Cowper-Symonds (C-S) and Johnson-Cook (J-C) material models. There are very good agreement between the simulated results in ANSYS and predicted (analytical) results by the models.
